Chimbonda on the move again
French defender Pascal Chimbonda is set to complete his third move in just over 12 months after Blackburn have agreed a fee for the player.
Chimbonda, who first rose to prominence in England with Wigan, is set for talks with Rovers over a £2 million move after slipping down the pecking order at Tottenham and out of manager Harry Redknapp’s plans.
Only just over 12 months ago, Chimbonda left Spurs for Sunderland, only to return to the capital during the January transfer window.
Now, after falling behind Corluka, Hutton and Naughton at White Hart Lane, the enigmatic Frenchman will swap London for Lancashire as Sam Allardyce looks for a replacement for Stephen Warnock, who is rumoured to be set to seal a move to Aston Villa.
Willie McKay, Chimbonda’s agent, told Sky Sports that him and the player are “in the process of sorting things out” and a deal should be sealed before the end of the week.
“Pascal is travelling up to Blackburn and will hopefully undergo a medical tomorrow if everything is agreed,” he added.
Blackburn are currently without a win in the Premier League this season, and with the much-maligned Chimbonda replacing Warnock, who is highly regarded among Blackburn fans and seen as a dependable player, then many could see it as a good football bet that Rovers could leak goals this term.
Fellow new signing Michel Salgado will be hoped to bring his vast experience to the defence and shore up the back-line to ensure the club do not struggle.
Croatian striker Nikola Kalinac has been signed to score goals for Sam Allardyce’s men and will certainly need to improve on the trio of guilt-edged missed chances he spurned on his debt against Sunderland last weekend.
The 21-year-old failed to score against Gillingham in the Carling Cup in a game which saw Blackburn overcome the League One team 3-1 at Priestfield.
