Hull chief lays blame at Duffen’s door

Hull City chairman Adam Pearson was quick to point the finger this week with the Tigers believed to be close to financial meltdown.

The struggling Premier League side are thought to be around ВЈ30 million in the red, with ВЈ5 million owed to the taxman.

Hull, currently in the drop zone, are all but relegated and administration could be the only option for the Yorkshire side as they face up to life in the Championship.

Pearson has been quick to lay the blame at the door of former chairman Paul Duffen. In his programme notes ahead of the midweek defeat by Aston Villa, Pearson wrote: “In my personal opinion, the decisions made by Mr Duffen were extremely short-sighted and lacking in business sense and specific football knowledge.”

Hull are believed to be losing almost ВЈ1 million a month and are reportedly also borrowing against next season’s expected income in a bid to keep the club afloat.

Pearson labelled Duffen’s payments to agents as “morally abhorrent”, while the club have also been criticised for excessive wages for some of their squad.

It all looks very gloomy at The KC Stadium with Hull looking destined for relegation after two seasons in the top flight. The club seems to be on the brink of financial disaster and the Tigers look all set follow Portsmouth down the drain.

It’s startling to think that another Premier League club is heading towards financial ruin, but Hull look to have the noose around their neck and others are likely to follow.
